Environmental Management

ENVIMA elaborates national and regional Environmental Management Concepts and Action Plans. The design philosophy considers the integration and harmonization of all human activities, which might have impacts on the environment. The integrated environmental management concepts enable all responsible authorities to guide, plan and act coordinated with the objective on an economic and ecologic sustainable development. The following projects have been carried out considering this philosophy:

National Environmental Management System, Quito, Ecuador

Design and establishment of the General National Environmental Management of Ecuador as a pilot program for all TCA countries (Tratado de Cooperacion Amazonica), financed by the UNIDO to guide the industrial development of the Amazonian region of Ecuador, comprising

  • Design of an National Environmental Monitoring System (EMoS)

  • Design of an National Environmental Information System (EIS)

  • Design of a short-term action plan as a basis to formulate and implement Ecuador’s national environmental policy

  • Design of a long-term action plan to monitor and manage environmental impacts throughout the whole country

  • Design of a logistic scheme for transferring applicable components of the Ecuadorian Environmental Management System to the other countries of the TCA

Rainforest Protection System, Quito, Ecuador

Collaboration on the development and implementation of a rainforest protection system within the framework of an NGO based sustainable agricultural development and sustainable development of Eco-Tourism in the rainforest areas of the west slopes of the Andes in Ecuador

Regional Environmental Management Plan, Dresden, Germany

Preparing of a "General Environmental Management Plan" for the regional sustainable development of the Saxon Switzerland National Park Region taking into account existing sub-concepts for ecological zoning, traffic and tourism under special consideration of the harmonizing of protection of natural resources, land use, and tourism.
Elaboration of an Environmental Management and Infrastructure Planning Concept for the planning of traffic, agriculture, forestry, commerce, industry and technical infrastructure as well as development of environmental friendly tourism, harmonizing with each other.

Environmental Management Services, Jakarta, Indonesia

Working out a proposal as consulting services for an international working Environmental Consulting and Engineering Company relating "Environmental Management Services" for the State Environmental Agency of Indonesia BAPEDAL including the

  1. description of the development and implementation of an national accreditation and certification system based on international environmental standards (EC Eco-Audit Directive, ISO 14000),

  2. design of environmental databases,

  3. concept and planning of environmental information centers and national information network,

  4. design of the compilation of essential modern equipment.

Integral Urban Ecological Concept for a Local Development Plan, Eppingen, Germany
Investigation on the environmental sensitivity and elaboration of an integral ecological concept for the local development plan “Oststadt II” of the planned residential area “Schussmauer” in Eppingen in order to provide a basis for sustainable urban development.

Integrated Waste Management

ENVIMA elaborates Waste Management Master Plans and Concepts as well as components of the waste management, including Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Support on Licensing Procedures for Waste Management Facilities, as well as Transportation Logistics and Site Management. ENVIMA follows the philosophy “build on the existence” in order to strengthen and to improve existing facilities, systems and approaches, integrating informal waste management components as well. The economic, socio economic and ecologic viability build the crucial point on the priority-based system of Prevention first, Recycling after prevention, Treatment after recycling and Final Deposition as last solution.

Elaboration of crucial components of an integrated waste management of Bogota, emphasized on the prevention, recycling and treatment incl. final deposition of all types of recycling materials from household, industry, hospitals, construction, and green areas. Elaboration of a transportation concept and site management for the entire waste management of Bogota. Working out Action Plans and terms of references for the implementation of the waste management.

Waste Management Feasibility Study, Dresden, Germany

Investigation on the economy and feasibility of an incineration plant for residuals including a biological-mechanical pre-treatment at the site of the sewage treatment works in Kaditz, Dresden.
Estimation of the amount of transportations and recommendations for the improvement of the transportation routing system. Assessment of the impacts on the environment and on urban features.

Waste Management Concept, Stuttgart, Germany

Integration of the waste management concepts of Enz District, Pforzheim Town Council, Freudenstadt District and Calw District to a general concept for the North Black Forest Region including the development of additional measures for waste reduction at source and resource recovery; comparison between biological-mechanical and thermal treatments for unrecoverable wastes and consideration of their incorporation into the overall concept.

Both, transport and sites for the disposal of solid waste are main cost factors of the waste management. ENVIMA elaborates economic efficient systems in order to reduce costs and environmental adverse impacts.

Air Pollution Management

ENVIMA elaborates industrial and traffic related air pollution management systems as well as components of it, such as i.e. Air Pollution Monitoring Systems, Ambient Air Quality Plans, Pollutant Dispersion Models, and technical expert studies on measures to reduce industrial and traffic related emission, considering production processes, vehicle technologies and air pollutant treatment technologies.

The improvement of regulatory frameworks, institutional strengthening, technical and managerial training for the staff of governmental agencies, industrial facilities and consulting companies as well as building of public awareness and the improvement of cooperation among all stakeholders represents an essential part of the air pollution management.

The Air Pollution Management has been and will also be considered in other projects, such as EIA, Integrated Waste Management and Environmental Management.

Implementation of Industrial Air Pollution Management with the objective, that Thai industrial companies are increasingly using environmentally friendly technologies as well as measures to avoid air pollution, including the elaboration of Technical Guidelines for selected industrial sectors, establishment of Emission Standards, introduction of Environmental Management Systems in SMEs, elaboration and implementation of Economic Instruments and Incentive Schemes, implementation of a target group oriented participatory approach.

Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Audit

ENVIMA carries out Environmental Impact Assessment Studies for Waste Treatment Facilities, Wastewater Treatment Facilities, Energy Generation Facilities as well as for HV transmission lines and numerous other facilities for licensing procedures as well as for planes and programs.

Complying with international standards of EIA procedures (i.e. WB directive) and expertise on pollution control and environmental meteorology, water pollution control, geology and hydrogeology, landscaping, botanic and zoology as well as technical know-how and consideration of national and international environmental standards build the basis for a high quality of the studies and audits.

The investigation on the planning of the cemetery have taken into account a combined use of the area for recreation and leisure-time as well as for the cemetery itself.
