How solar heating systems work

In order to heat water using solar energy, solar collectors are made to absorb solar radiation through its selective surface coating, which raises the temperature of the water in the collector. Then, the heated water flows back to a hot water storage tank. In the hot water storage tank, cold and hot water is layered, since cold water is added to the tank in the lower part while hot water is collected in the upper part - this remains a stable layering. Circulation pumps and electronic controllers help to pump the heated water from the collectors at a defined temperature to the storage tank, whenever the temperature in the tank is lower than the defined temperature at the collector.
